What is a healing crisis?
A healing crisis, also known as a "Herxheimer reaction," occurs when the body undergoes a rapid detoxification process as it begins to heal and restore balance. It's similar to the soreness you might experience after working out for the first time in a long time. When you engage muscles that have been stagnant, your body responds with discomfort as it repairs and strengthens.
The same principle applies to energy healing. Life force energy—often referred to as reiki, prana, qi, or chi—awakens areas in the body that may have been blocked due to injuries, poor diet, emotional stress, or a negative mindset. As this energy flows through the body, it clears blockages, unblocks stagnation, and promotes proper energetic alignment.
This clearing process can sometimes trigger physical, emotional, or spiritual detoxification, which manifests as temporary discomfort or symptoms. These symptoms may include:
Flu-like sensations
Fatigue or exhaustion
Vomiting or diarrhea
Sore throat
Emotional releases (such as crying or mood swings)
Nightmares or vivid dreams
While these symptoms can feel unpleasant, they are a positive sign that the energy is working for your highest good. The body is purging what no longer serves it, creating space for healing, balance, and alignment to occur at a deeper level.
It's important to support your body during a healing crisis by staying hydrated, eating nourishing foods, resting, and practicing self-compassion. These symptoms typically subside within a few days, leaving you feeling lighter, clearer, and more aligned with your natural state of well-being.
Remember, healing is a journey, and a healing crisis is a powerful step toward transformation and renewal.
